How I make my daily LinkedIn videos

Each day it takes me 30-60 min to film, edit and publish a video of under a minute to LinkedIn. β³πŸ˜€πŸŽ¬

My videos are very basic, but I wanted to highlight that it’s possible for anyone to do and doesn’t take too long.

πŸ”‡πŸ”‡πŸ”‡ On Linkedin the sound is off!

The longest stage for me right now is the captions and editing. I include captions because I believe many people browsing LinkedIn don’t have their sound turned on.

More than any other social network, people are using LinkedIn at their desk and rarely plug in their headphones for a 30-sec video.

Here’s my process each day:

1️⃣πŸŽ₯ Film the video (5 min)
– Using my iPhone and airpods as mic (compromise)

2οΈβƒ£πŸ—œCompress and download video to laptop (3 min)
– Open video in Quik appΒ

3οΈβƒ£πŸ€Όβ€β™‚οΈUse Camtasia to edit, create & add captions (30 min)
– Type up captions in template text doc
– Import to CamtasiaΒ
– Adjust for timing of video

4οΈβƒ£πŸ‘† Upload, write the post and publish (15 min)
– Usually write it up in Evernote in case LI has a problem

This is oversimplified but just a very basic summary. Let me know if you want a more detailed breakdown and I can expand further.

LinkedIn’s algorithm is broken!

A couple of days ago I published my 19th video on LinkedIn for 2019 and there is still only 1 view and no other activity. That’s after 40 hours!

The video is definitely published but it doesn’t seem to have actually been released into the LinkedIn ecosystem. Can you see the video?

πŸ“½ SEE MISSING VIDEO

Let me know if you can discover any problem with it? Why is it hidden by LinkedIn? Why isn’t it getting out there?

(UPDATE 1: I’ve re-uploaded the video in case you want to see and I tested it with another account so it should work)

(UPDATE 2: I’ve found out some people can’t see this new link, so here is another version I’ve uploaded)

Have you ever had this issue before with LinkedIn? Have you published something and then waited and absolutely no activity or engagement?!? It might not be your content that’s the problem, it might be LinkedIn itself! Share your experience on LinkedIn.

(UPDATE 3: We finally found that there is some text which seems to cause the post to appear lost for other users. I’m still trying to replicate and find the exact text which causes the issue. Seems it’s a LinkedIn Bug!)

What camera should I choose?

Happy Weekend! Today I’ve been exploring the Botanic Gardens in Melbourne and thinking about whether I should buy a new camera. 😳πŸŽ₯πŸ˜€

I’ve been filming all my videos this month on my iPhone X, which I think does a pretty good job. But I can’t help thinking I should “upgrade” to a proper camera, like DJI Osmo Pocket or GoPro HERO7 Black.

I want to create better looking and more stable video, but I also want to travel lean and only bring the stuff I really need.

Does anyone have experience with these cameras or with this problem and can offer any advice? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Please share on LinkedIn.

[🌟Also, feel free to watch the my video on LinkedIn until the end as I’ve included an ‘Encore’ of additional footage taken with my Xiaomi Mi Action Cam, which is a very good budget GoPro which might be sufficient for my amateur needs.]

I can never go to sleep on time

I need your help! What are some tips or advice for how to sleep early or sleep on time?! πŸ›ŒπŸ€”

I always find myself messing around before I go to bed and I’m hoping to get some tips from you guys.

Is the answer having a routine? Turning off devices? Exercising? Discipline?

I’m not talking about falling asleep, because I don’t have a problem with that. My issue is actually stopping activity and getting into bed so I can have a good nights sleep and start the next day early and refreshed.

Please share your advice on the LinkedIn post! It will be most welcome.

Staying connected with your personal network

I can’t believe it’s day 17. OMG 🀯🀯🀯. So far I’ve remained on track and published a video on LinkedIn every day of 2019. After today’s video I have only 12 left for theΒ #30days30videosΒ challenge that I set myself.

Today I did my first video with a lapel mic, which I prefer to the goofy looking airpod in an ear. However, I’m not sure that it’s actually better sound.

I’ve been searching for a better system to manage my contacts from my phone and gmail. I’m hoping that utilising technology I can do a better job of staying in touch with everyone, especially as I move around this year and potentially can catch up with old friends around the world.

I’ve found an app which looks promising. It’s called Covve. It uses AI and some smart systems to help you manage your contacts and stay connected with your personal network.

πŸ“° Scans news for mentions of your contacts
πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Add notes so you remember who’s who
πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈ Reminds you when you’re losing touch with people
🀫 Add further details about your contacts using public data
πŸ•΅ Powerful search, and many more features

Has anyone already been using this app for a while? What are your thoughts?

Any other similar apps you’d suggest for personal contact management?

Stay focused!

I’m in an ongoing battle with myself to stay focused. One of my greatest adversaries is social media. It lures me from my phone to take my attention and distract my mind. πŸ“΅πŸ“΅πŸ“΅

However, with practice, I’m finding that I’m slowly winning this battle. Here are a few strategies you can put into place depending on your level of self control.
πŸ‘ Turn off notifications for social on your phone
πŸ‘ Hide social media apps into folders or out of the way
πŸ‘ Remove social media apps entirely
πŸ‘ Set allocated time each day to look at social channels
πŸ‘ Activate airplane mode
πŸ‘ Leave phone in another room

What are your tips and strategies for beating social media and staying focused?

The power of routine

I start every day with a routine. It’s an incredibly powerful way to ensure I’m productive when I only have myself to keep me accountable. β™»βš‘πŸ’₯

πŸ›πŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ My mind wakes without an alarm, usually about 8 hours after I go to bed. Then I do ‘7 minute workout’ to wake up my body.

πŸ³πŸ’Š Then I make a quick protein-rich breakfast of eggs or a shake, and take vitamins and brain enhancers (see my video), have a shower, get dressed, and get out of the house.

β˜•πŸ”‹ It’s critical that I get out and get a coffee asap. This ensures that I start working and get some positive momentum to power on through the day.

I also have a number of other routines, such as the current one of making a LinkedIn video everyday, along with evening warm down routines.

What about you? Do you practice any routines? Share on LinkedIn.

Is goal setting effective or overhyped?

I met a close friend today and together we discussed goal setting. She has a successful business coaching professionals and students on pursuing what they love with the help of clear and structured trackable goals.

We agreed that goal setting done properly is critical to being successful (whatever that might mean for you). πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

However, the reality is that many people might casually set goals but very rarely have a successful method or the accountability necessary to achieve them.

My friend is going to take me through her goal framework and help me set my goals properly for 2019. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Do you have personal and professional goals outlined for 2019? Do you break them down by month and by week?

Please share on LinkedIn. I’m really interested to see how many people outline their goals and how they do it.

Cycling is the best form of transport

I’m really getting into cycling. πŸš΄πŸŒ¬

I’m still certainly an amateur but it’s by far my preferred form of transport in Melbourne. Even when it’s raining a bit I still find it preferable to any other method of movement.

Cycling is great because

  • 🚴 You’re in control of your time (late trains or traffic don’t slow you down)
  • 🚴 Great exercise for your whole body (especially cardio and quads)
  • 🚴 Keeps your brain alert but still allows you to subconsciously reflect on other thoughts
  • 🚴 It’s fun and challenging at times
  • 🚴 Often faster than public transport
  • 🚴 Very convenient for middle distances
  • 🚴 Easy to find parking
  • 🚴 Get some fresh air and Vitamin D

What do you think? Are there any other cyclists out there? How do you get around your city? Please share on LinkedIn!
